Montezuma is a very small town located on the southern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica. The town is known for its picturesque beach, bohemian vibe, and natural attractions, including the Montezuma Waterfall.

Montezuma has a lot of things to offer to its visitors, such as surfing, yoga, and wildlife tours. The town is also home to a vibrant arts and music scene, with several galleries and live music venues. Besides exploring the town one of the main attractions in Montezuma is to visit the Montezuma waterfall.
The Montezuma Waterfall is one of the top things to do in the town, located about 2.5 kilometers from the town center. The waterfall is approximately 24 meters high and cascades down into a natural pool, creating a beautiful and refreshing swimming spot. Visitors can easily do a short hike through the jungle to reach the waterfall or take a short taxi ride from the town center.

Montezuma is a charming fun town but fairly small. If you have time exploring other nearby beach towns is a must including the towns of Malpais and Santa Teresa. Both beach towns are very close to Montezuma and are also very beautiful. Malpais is a rocky beach perfect for camping, while Santa Teresa is the biggest town in the area offering a world-class surf break, great nightlife, and three beautiful beaches to explore. You can easily drive, take a taxi, or rent an atv or bike to travel to any of these towns from Montezuma.

How to get there:
The best route to get to Montezuma from San Jose is to travel to Puntarenas, then take a ferry from Puntarenas to Paquera, and then continue the journey in the peninsula to Montezuma. If you’r driving you can easily travel from San Jose to Puntarenas which is like 2 hours, buy a ferry ticket in Puntarenas, take the ferry across the bay, and drive another 2 hours to Montezuma. If you are traveling by bus you can take a bus from San Jose directly to Montezuma. This same bus also stops in Santa Teresa and Malpais.

The buses from San Jose are managed by Transporte Hermanos Rodríguez. Tel.: 2221-7479, 2642-1112. The journey takes around 6 hours and 30 minutes to complete including the part where you travel by ferry. The price is $15 USD including the ferry ticket.
